Week 1: February 3 – 9
- 3 points: New participants: Follow the Sequoit Wellness Challenge Twitter @SequoitWellness and/or Instagram pages. If your Twitter or Instagram handle isn't your name, send a message to the account to make sure you get points! Questions? Please contact Mary Soto at [email protected]. Returning participants: Tweet about how you are earning your points. For the non-tweeters, email Stacy Krabbe at [email protected] and she will tweet out on your behalf. Or, Instagram a picture of you earning your points. For the non-instagrammers, email Mary Soto at [email protected]. Both accounts need you to tag the account in the post to get your points.
- 3 points: Teachers only. Celebrate wellness by participating in the 2nd Annual Door Decorating Contest. This year’s theme is “Witness the Wellness.” Be sure to document by posting a picture of your door on Instagram or Twitter. (See bullet point above for details.) Check your email for contest information.
- 2 points: Have you always wanted to learn to knit or crochet to help reduce stress? If so, come to our first class this Monday after school in the ILC. We will be having classes every Monday during the challenge so you will have plenty of time to finish your special project. Don’t have supplies? Don’t worry. We have supplies for you!
- 1 point: Set your own personal weight loss goal for the six week challenge. Just go to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in anytime this week. After the six weeks, go back to the nurse's office for a final weigh-in and see the results of your effort. Set your goals high!!
Week 2: February 10 – 16 Celebrate emotional wellness
- 3 points: Take one when you need one--share one with a friend---or leave one with another--join us in the Makerspace on Monday during all lunch periods to create a kindness rock.
- 2 points: Cards for Hospitalized Kids is an internationally recognized charitable organization that spreads hope, joy & magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards. Join the Antioch Public Library in the Makerspace on Thursday and Friday to help us brighten the days of as many hospitalized kids as possible.
- 1 point: Do you have a favorite teacher, a special girl or boy friend, a BFF? Come to the Makerspace on Tuesday or Wednesday during all lunch periods to create that special someone a Valentine message.
- 1 point for the top two bullet points - up to 2 points total:
- Take a picture of you giving that special person your Valentine message and add it to Twitter or Instagram!
- Take a picture of your kindness rock--whether it's with you or your friend--and add it to Twitter or Instagram!

Week 3: February 17 – February 23 Celebrate social wellness
- 3 points: Join the ACHS Environmental Club on Thursday, February 20, for our bi-weekly downtown recycling program. Help local businesses by collecting recycling materials and depositing them in our recycling dumpster - keeping cardboard and other recyclables out of landfills! The club meets in room 216 after school and will walk downtown at 3:00 pm. Dress for the weather. This event is FREE.
- 2 points: Embark on a fun orienteering activity on Tuesday, February 18, during all lunch periods! Find Mrs. Krabbe or Mr. Rose outside of room 216. Armed with a compass and a set of directions, you and a partner will navigate the school. Once you arrive at your end destination, return to 216 to verify accuracy. This event is FREE.
- 1 point: Go off the grid! Stay away from social media/texting/cell phone use aside from critical/emergency contact for 24 hours. Write up a reflection of your experiences and send this to both Mrs. Krabbe and Mr. Rose. This event is FREE.
- 1 point: Check out Lisa McKavis's new nurse's blog! Read her social wellness post to find out what ACHS is doing to offer students and staff social wellness support.
Week 4: February 24 – March 1 Celebrate nutritional wellness
- 3 points: Participate in the Healthy Recipe Exchange February 26 - 27. Stop in the ILC and select a recipe you plan to make yourself for a meal or treat.
- 1 extra point: Email a healthy recipe to [email protected] by Tuesday at 12 pm to contribute to the healthy recipe exchange.
- 1 extra point: Take a picture of your delicious prepared healthy food and share it on social media.
- 2 points: Evaluate your eating habits. Select 2 days and log your food intake using an App. Try using Fooducate, My Fitness Pal, Weight Watchers, My Plate, or Rise Up.
- 1 extra point: Share the App you used and a positive from it on social media.
- 1 point each - up to 2 points total:
- Get your blood pressure checked in the Nurse’s office.
- Reducing the amount of fat you consume may lower your blood pressure and promote weight loss, which further reduces hypertension. Another reason to control the amount and type of fat that you eat is that high blood pressure increases the risk of arteriosclerosis or hardening of the arteries.

- Get your blood pressure checked in the Nurse’s office.
Week 5: March 2 - March 8 Celebrate physical wellness
- 3 points: Pick a day and participate in the Wellness Challenge 5K. This event must be completed at one time in one session.
- 1 point: Take a picture of the treadmill/fitness tracker, app or location of you completing your 5K.
- 2 points: Come join Srta. Garcia as we dance to different styles that are popular in Latin music. Join the dance party after school Thursday, March 5th, in the Dance Room at 3:00 till 3:30 or 3:30 to 4:00.
- 1 point: Find your Body Mass Index (BMI). Enter your height and weight into the BMI calculator by going to the following website. If you need to find your height, please stop in the nurse's office.
Week 6: March 9 - 15 Celebrate intellectual wellness
- 3 points: Complete the entire DigiCit scavenger hunt anytime this week. Once you've solved the 8 word catch phrase, submit your final response at QR code station 9 (in front of the dean's office)! Check Mr. Murray's email on Monday for details!
- 3 points:
- Students only. Complete the trivia a day question and email [email protected] with your correct answer.
- Staff only. Attend the Sequoit Pride Dinner-Auction fundraiser on Saturday, March 14.
- 2 points: Complete a sudoku online activity and take a screenshot of your completed puzzle https://www.websudoku.com/ and send it to [email protected]. Or, complete a printed puzzle, which will be in the ILC. (Turn in to Dr. Bolton' s mailbox or envelope outside room 112).
- 1 point: During week one, you went to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in and you set your own personal goal. It's now time to go back to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in and see the results of your efforts for the past few weeks. If you don't feel comfortable stepping on a scale, instead, take a few moments to reflect how you did in the five categories of wellness: emotional, intellectual, nutritional, physical, and social. Have you improved in any category? Are there things you would like to change? What are your plans moving forward? This does not need to be shared/posted.
