3 points: Find, make and eat a heart healthy recipe from the American Heart Association. Yes, you may use a healthy recipe from another source. However, to qualify for points, it has to be a recipe you have never tried before.

Week 1: February 3 – 9
- 3 points: New participants: Follow the Sequoit Wellness Challenge Twitter @SequoitWellness and/or Instagram pages. If your Twitter or Instagram handle isn't your name, send a message to the account to make sure you get points! Questions? Please contact Mary Gumler at [email protected]. Returning participants: Tweet about how you are earning your points. For the non-tweeters, email Stacy Terlep at [email protected] and she will tweet out on your behalf. Or, Instagram a picture of you earning your points. For the non-instagrammers, email Mary Gumler at [email protected]. Both accounts need you to tag the account in the post to get your points.
- 2 points - Attend one of the following events in its entirety.
- Boys basketball against Round Lake High School on Saturday. Varsity starts at 7:30 p.m. and Freshmen/Sophomores start at 6:00 p.m. Sequoit Pride passes/staff passes will be accepted. Otherwise, the price is $4.00 for adults and $2 for students.
- Wrestling sectional competitions on Friday at 4:30 p.m. or Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Due to sectional rules, no passes will be accepted. The price of admission is $5.00 for both students and staff members.
- Girls basketball against Lakes on Thursday. Varsity starts at 7:00 p.m. JV and Freshmen starts at 5:30 p.m. The games will be played at Lakes and there is no cost to attend.
- 1 point - Get your blood pressure checked anytime this week in the nurse's office.
Week 2: February 10 – 16
3 points for EACH bullet point – up to 6 bonus points:
- For students and staff, participate in at least three of the five Winterfest dress up days.
- For students only, attend the Winterfest event on Saturday, February 16, or make your own tee shirt in the Makerspace (paint will be provided, but you will need to bring your own tee shirt).
- For staff only, attend the Winterfest event on Saturday, February 16, or sign up during the lunch periods to help hand out treats to students. See last week's email from Teri Kobnak for the sign-up sheet.
- Attend the entire Brain Bowl competition on Wednesday, February 13, from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00ish in the IDEA Center. Credit will be given to students who leave early to take a bus home. Or, attend the Sequoits Read book talk after school in the ILC on Friday, February 15. You may attend from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Check out the 10 decorated doors and tweet, @SequoitWellness, a picture of yourself in front of your favorite door. For the non-tweeters, email Stacy Terlep at [email protected] and she will tweet out on your behalf.
Week 3: February 17 – February 23
- 3 points: Attend the entire 2nd Annual Buddy Ballers Basketball Tournament on Thursday, February 21, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. They will be playing the Lakes Eagles, Grayslake North Knights, and Wauconda Bulldogs at Antioch High School. Admission is free. Or, attend the NLCC Battle of the Books competition on Thursday, February 21, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Lakes High School. Admission is free.
- 2 points for EACH bullet point - up to 4 bonus points:
- Challenge yourself over the next four weeks with your own personal weight loss challenge. Go to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in. The nurse will show you how to use the scale and you will weigh yourself. Set your own goal and weigh yourself again during the last week of the challenge.
- Donate books for the NEHS/Library Advisory Board book drive this week. New or gently used books will be donated to the Reach Out and Read program (infancy to 5 years); Sequoit Book Exchange (high school/community); and a K-12 school that does not have a library. Books may be dropped off in the ILC, Main Office or Room 258.
- 1 point: Attend the boys basketball against Lakes High School on Friday. Varsity starts at 7:00 p.m. and Freshmen/Sophomores start at 5:30 p.m. Sequoit Pride passes/staff passes will be accepted. Otherwise, the price is $4.00 for adults and $2 for students.
Week 4: February 24 – March 1
- 3 points: Attend the What's Your Word? event Monday-Friday all day in the Makerspace. Discover the WORD that is most important to you and create a bracelet/keychain/necklace. To discover your word, go to this link to take the What's Your Word quiz or scroll down to view an inspirational word list or answer the question "What if a question could change your life?" Now, choose wisely, as you will only get to make one bracelet/keychain/necklace to preserve your word forever.

- Instagram a picture of you earning your points. For the non-instagrammers, email Mary Gumler at [email protected]. Both accounts need you to tag the account in the post to get your points.
- 1 point: Know your body mass index (BMI). BMI is a widely used method of defining a healthy weight based on height. Go to this link to determine your BMI.
Week 5: March 2 - March 8

2 points:
- For students only, join the Environmental Club, from 3:00 to 4:00ish in room 216, as they contribute to a greener planet by taking care of the recycling needs of five downtown Antioch businesses, keeping cardboard, paper, and other recyclables out of a landfill.
- For staff only, go to the teacher's lounge during your entire lunch period on Wednesday, March 6, and relax with your colleagues. Adult coloring will be available.
- Read the entire article on "Understanding Food Nutrition Labels."
- Choose a wellness topic of interest to you and then locate an article (either from our databases or a credible online source) and read the entire article.
Week 6: March 9 - 15
3 points for EACH bullet point - up to 6 bonus points total
- Participate in the Witness the Fitness Virtual 5K on Thursday, March 14, from 3 pm to 5 pm.
- Students only, join the Environmental Club on Thursday in room 216 as they sort and empty classroom recycle bins to make sure everything that enters our recycling dumpster should actually be recycled.
- Staff only, attend the Sequoit Pride Dinner-Auction fundraiser on Saturday, March 16.
- Science has proven that people who eat carrots have improved eyesight. Use your eyes to spot the carrot and tweet a picture with the carrot. The carrot will be roaming the commons/cafeteria during the lunch periods on Tuesday. For the non-tweeters, email Stacy Terlep at [email protected] and she will tweet out on your behalf.
- An Apple a Day keeps the doctor away. Find the apple in the ILC anytime during the lunch hours on Thursday and tweet a picture with the apple. For the non-tweeters, email Stacy Terlep at [email protected] and she will tweet out on your behalf.
- It's the last week and it's time for you to make a personal challenge. Choose one of these challenge ideas and do it every day this week.
- Attend the entire music contest at Lakes on Friday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m.
- During week three, you went to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in and you set your own personal weight loss challenge. It's now time to go back to the nurse's office for a confidential weigh-in and see the results of your efforts for the past few weeks. Good luck!
